[Thoughts on First Watch] From 3x5 - The Light of Day

Published February 10, 2026

What the hell is this?

This is an overall dump of my thoughts during my first time viewing of From's third season's fifth episode, The Light of Day.

And now for my notes.

Oh, great. Randall's still alive. And he snitched in front of everyone. Here's hoping he's injured too badly to survive, because he's been a problem so far; after this, he'll be a nightmare.

I dunno, man, could getting caught in a rusty bear strap that dislocated your ankle and pieced deep into your leg be "a lot worse"? What if her tetanus shot's out of date??

Oh, and now we have to deal with Victor seeing his dad for the first time in eons. Does he even remember his dad? I mean, he's majorly freaking out, but that could mean anything.

"The important thing is that she's back, and we're all together." See, you fuckers have monster town Stockholm syndrome. This is crazy. If one of your family members fucking escapes, you shouldn't be happy that they wind up back!? You should be happy they're free from the town and the inevitable death-by-monster-mauling??? Jim's such a fuck!

Jade, I genuinely need you to beat the ever-loving fuck out of Jim. Please, please, please. Bash his fucking face in!

Yeah, see, but does it matter that she got out, if she was brought back (not that she made it back of her own accord, but that her ambulance was pulled in) almost immediately? And another (very important) villager's family member was snatched up along the way??

Jesus, Marielle, shut the fuck up! Nobody cares about you and your whiny bs!

If you want to kill off hope and torture people, telling them about a way out... that lasts for like four fucking days before you see that goddamn tree again? That's certainly a good way to do it. (And since Dale is being focused on in this scene, we can tell he's going to be an extreme problem.) (But also, I don't know if she is going to properly convey that the tree isn't actually a way out; the tree was a way to the lighthouse, which was only a way out by virtue of the little boy shoving her off the top!)

Oh, Victor, you poor sweet thing. And Sara! You're doing so good, too! I'd like to sign up for more Victor & Sara friendship scenes, please!

Yes, please, drag her stupid ass! All of you are trapped here forever, and she couldn't be fucked to even try to tell the cops? Hell, throw the story onto fucking Reddit and YouTube and 4chan with some details, and you'll have an army of nerds with too much time on their hands chasing down every real or fake lead they can get their grubby little fingers on!

Dale, shut the fuck up! Jim, also shut the fuck up! Yes, Fatima, drag her ass! Tabitha sucks.

She didn't go through the fucking tree to go home, you dumb cunts! Boyd, you need to tell them that going through a tree was the reason the town was infected with fucking worms.

Nah, Boyd, fuck it. Let these dipshits march through the tree, and if any of them attempt to come back, they're not welcome to come back for fear of worms or worse!

JIM SHUT THE FUCK UP. SHE DOESN'T OWE SHIT TO YOU, YOU ABSOLUTE SHITFUCK, YOU TRIED TO ABANDON YOUR KIDS AFTER SHE DISAPPEARED! TO WALK INTO THE WOODS AND JUST GO NOWHERE! Now you're trying to forbid a grown woman from walking to a fucking tree because "she owes it to your kids"???

Put! Jim! In! The! Box! (With Dale. And Randall.)

See, but here's the thing, sheriff. You ask me "who's your pick?" for who to risk in this scenario? Easy: Dale. He sucks, we need him outta here, and if he dies, we're not losing anything. He's constantly sowing discord, he undermines you, he's the most rabid advocate of this plan, and he seems to have no special skills at all—we risk him. Bye, Dale! Call the cops for us if you get out, you stupid fuck!

You idiots find a working polaroid camera, and you're gonna waste all the film. Lord.

Oh, good, we have a cop here to save us all! So brilliant. "Have you considered giving everyone a task for focus on??" No, wow, thanks, I didn't think of that!

"Something's not right with the baby." Yeah, girl, you think? But thanks for finally telling someone, I guess.

"There's a motel sign here. There's a pool. But where's the motel?" Good question! (Notable: there's a "no vacancy" sign.)

Are they setting up a romance between the sheriff and the bus driver? I was suspicious the first time they had a moment, but now they're having another moment.

I wouldn't take the bottles from that fucking tree, if I were you. What if they're what makes it work???

Oh, great. It's the very end of the episode, and Dale's gonna go through the tree. That means something wild is about to happen to him. But at least it's him instead of someone else.

"I'm sorry this happened to you." Well, that's a statement. I mean, I feel like maybe we could've tried to dig him out?

Hey, Boyd, maybe we don't make this all about you right now? Because the monsters are literally making their violence about you lately, so don't encourage that shit? Like, stop making yourself the main character because you're going to suffer for it.
