[Thoughts on First Watch] From 2x8 - Forest for the Trees

Published February 9, 2026

What the hell is this?

This is an overall dump of my thoughts during my first time viewing of From's second season's eighth episode, Forest for the Trees.

And now for my notes.

Uh, is the phone really ringing, or are we dreaming? Okay. Dreaming. But also something bit him in the dream? Bugs???

Wait, shit, and he's got a weird hickey in real life where the dream bug bit him. Great.

That drone got barely twelve feet off the ground. What's the point?

Oh my god, Captain Redneck thinks no one's actually dying. He thinks they're fucking crisis actors. Jesus. And he's literally just saying whatever. He's going on about how Jim should've killed Sara but also Sara probably didn't actually kill anyone in the first place. Please, show, let Jim and Shit-for-brains kill each other.

I want more Jade and Victor. I want zero Jim and Fuckface. I want vastly less Jade-and-Tabitha. Victor's just so great. He's my favorite. "Pictures are for things that are gone." And oh my god, he doesn't believe the Internet is real. He thinks Ethan made it up. He's so delightful.

(If Tabitha stops hanging out with Jim and starts hanging out with Jade and Victor instead, though, that might fix her...)

Ugh. His name is Randall.

Get away from that teenage girl. Get away from that autistic teenage girl!

PUT THIS MAN IN THE FUCKING BOX. You should have put him in the fucking box the moment he showed up in town!

Good move, Jim. (Solely because if Randall goes through with your plan, he'll probably fucking die.)

Oh, great, Jimmy-boy's going with Randall. Let's pray they both fucking die!

Randall is going to be another Abby, and he's going to be a much worse one.

"It's not good to ask questions. People shouldn't go looking for answers. Because they don't come back." Did his mom "go looking for answers"? Oh, damn, yeah, he said his mom said they'd be going home "the night that the bad thing happened." What the hell happened? Did Christopher do something? Or fail to do/prevent something?

Oh, weird. The body is swarming with bugs. Beetles? Cicadas? Ew. Either way: did they hatch from it (or from the worms), or have they come to eat it?

And the bugs are gone despite the door having been kept closed!

TBH, I wouldn't invite someone in withdrawal to colony house.

Ah, fuck. Victor had a sister he couldn't even remember. What the hell happened to her?

STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM DONNA, RANDALL.

"She [went? wanted?] to save the children locked in the tower." And by tower, she clearly meant lighthouse! (Right?)

Oh, damn, definitely cicadas. Also, wait, who the fuck is that guy?

Oh, good, and Randall is trying to kill Donna. I fucking hate you, Jim. This is all your goddamn fault. And poor Donna, getting tricked by the vain hope that Randall might turn out not to be completely psycho.
