This is an overall dump of my thoughts during my first time viewing of From's second season's fourth episode, This Way Gone.
Flashback to when Kenny first got here? Oh, no, flashback to when they had to put the day into the hospital permanently because there was some kind of incident when he nearly got the family killed, I guess... And that's the day Boyd made him the deputy.
"I think [the little boy] is trapped here like us."
Bro, you've got monster parasites, maybe you calm down and get some help?
Bus driver's just sulking—and over all the wrong shit. She was the one pushing them to disbelieve Donna. That's the only thing she did wrong. That's how she got a bunch of people fucking killed.
Oh, that's a really interesting conversation the two of them just had. Jade wound up in the town right after he sold his life's work—some tech company or Internet shit—and the bus driver wound up here very soon after she finally paid off her student loans and was about to quit the bus job. So in some ways, both had stories that were "complete." That also kind of works for the family: they had decided to get a divorce after the death of Thomas, so the story of their marriage was essentially over. What about everyone else? I don't think we know enough about anyone else to say. (We got some Boyd info a while back, but I don't remember what their trip was about.)
Not Jim trying to explain to his wife that it's "not possible" for the wires to really be disconnected from anything. Bro, you've already said yourself that they're not even real wires! Forget what they're connected to! (Though this is a better convo than most 'refusing to believe what's in front of your eyes' convos because of the metaphor he's drawing it. Like I did a while back, he's comparing the experience of the town directly to his work creating amusement park rides. Illusion is a huge part of them; it's less fun and scary if you can see all the mechanisms. The issue, though, is that Jim seems to think this was made for the humans, whereas I'm thinking it's the opposite: it's a playground for monsters. In terms of what it is for humans... it's more like a little rat cage. Everything you could ever "need" is given to you... but you're fucking trapped and probably bored and also completely at the mercy of things more powerful than you.)
Ugh, preacher's back. Here's hoping hallucination preacher isn't as bad a the real version. But here's the thing: what makes you think these hallucinations aren't manipulations?
And speaking of manipulations, why would you think the voice is a beneficent person? It's clearly one of the fucking monsters or something even worse? Thank the fucking gods for Donna. And oh my god do I hate Jim.
Put this redneck fuck in the fucking box. He just threatened to beat Donna, so kill him.
Oh, boy, Sara's gonna tell Kenny the truth. Great.
YEAH, DONNA, THAT'S THE SHIT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR. Kick that fucker outta here!
Ah, shit. Sara must've told him. Fuck. And dumbshit Kenny has "resigned" and is demanding Sara go in the box. Oh, brother. Can you imagine what Gun Boy would do if they put some little white girl in the fucking box right now? You'll have another Abby on your hands, is what you'll have...
